Michael Loy - Director of Training
Michael Loy moved to Idaho Falls in 2016 to help further the shooting sports in Southeast Idaho. Before becoming the General Manager of Guns N Gear, he accumulated more than a decade of experience as a full-time Firearms Instructor and Director of Training for Trigger Control Training based out of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In addition to his professional experience, he brings a lifetime of shooting sports passion with him; he is a NRA Life Member, an Idaho Hunter Education Instructor, and a personal protection training enthusiast. Mike has a passion for helping his community, growing the shooting sports, and sharing his knowledge with everyone he meets. You will find Mike working in our store most every day. Dillon Maughan - RSO & Firearms Specialist
Dillon J. Maughan grew up in Idaho Falls enjoying the beautiful outdoors and a strong Second Amendment environment. His training consists of both firearms and hand-to-hand through various groups, such as Universal Security, Trigger Control Training, NRA, and many others. He is also a Certified Smith & Wesson Armorer. Dillon's formal work experience began in 2010 when he joined Tactical Security for event security and patrol. In 2014 he was recruited to Guns N Gear as a Range Safety Officer and has since began working in Sales and has become an Apprentice Instructor for Trigger Control Training.
Jeff Layton - Firearms Instructor
Jeff Layton is an Apprentice Instructor for Trigger Control Training. His love of firearms dates back to the day he got his first Red Ryder BB gun. He has been working on his firearms skills ever since. Jeff joined the Marine Corps in 1988 and was an infantry man. After he got out of the Corps, he joined the National Guard in 1993. In 1996 he and his partner won the State Machine Gun Match and went on to represent Idaho at nationals in Little Rock Arkansas. The next year he competed in the State Rifle Match and once again went on to represent our great state. After that he went on to the Army Small Arms Instructor and Range Operations Course where he learned to teach folks how to use the Small Arms that were used in the service. Jeff then went to the Army Master Marksman Course where he learned to teach the other Instructors and became the lead Marksmanship Instructor for his battery. After retiring in 2008 he still dabbled with shooting where he could, but was thrilled when he was given the opportunity to train and teach again with Trigger Control Training.
Adam Cartney - Apprentice Firearms Instructor
Adam was born in South Dakota and moved to Southeastern Idaho after graduating from high school. He has always had a passion for shooting, hunting, and firearms his entire life. That passion brought him to Guns N Gear where he became an NRA Range Safety Officer, and BIT Instructor. Adam continues to further his education with Trigger Control Training’s Instructor Development Program.
Austin Frandsen - Range Safety Officer
Austin fell in love with shooting after his first trip to the range with his dad when he was 8 years old. Ever since that day he has been intrigued with the art of shooting. His dad is a nationally certified Rifle and Pistol Instructor and subsequently passed on that knowledge to Austin. In addition to that training, he has received an abundance of knowledge from Guns N Gear's Director of Training, Michael Loy. After thousands of repetitions of dry practice and live fire drills, he has achieved an exceptional level of proficiency on the rifle, pistol and shotgun platforms. Austin is a nationally certified Range Safety Officer as well as a Smith & Wesson Armorer. He is excited to complete his certifications to become an NRA Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun Instructor. He is ecstatic to have been granted the opportunity to be a proud member of the Guns N Gear team!
Elden Arnell - Firearms Instructor
Elden was born and raised in Rigby, Idaho. He was in Law Enforcement from 1975 to 1992. He then started his carrier in firearms sales working for several different companies. Elden is a rifle and pistol expert, Law Enforcement Sharpshooter, Firearms Instructor, Police Sniper, and is a Patron NRA member. He is NRA certified with Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun, and Home Firearms Safety. He is also one of the founding members of the Southeast Idaho Practical Shooters and has been active in IPSC, USPSA, ICORE, IDPA and many other shooting disciplines.
Jamie Wise - Apprentice Firearms Instructor
Jamie is originally from Billings, Montana and moved to Idaho where she raised her two boys. She is currently a Real Estate Investor, house flipper and has been a Broker for over fifteen years. Jamie’s interest in being able to protect herself and conceal carry brought her to Guns N Gear where she has taken many classes combined with being a part of the Trigger Control Training Instructor Development team. The more classes she took, the more she became addicted to the sport of shooting and firearms, and the more she improved. She is now completely comfortable and confident and wants to teach and pass on what she has learned.
Leonard Haag - Firearms Instructor

Melinda Haag - Apprentice Firearms Instructor
Melinda was born and raised in Utah then moved to Idaho when she was 20 years old. She has been married for 27 years, is the mother of three boys who are all active military, and has one grandson. Melinda enjoys being around family, camping, skiing, quilting, and various other hobbies. She started with Trigger Control Training in the Apprentice Instructor Development program in November of 2016 and really enjoys it. She has gained a lot of knowledge being part of the program and continues to grow and improve daily.
Liam Kelly - Firearms Instructor
Liam has successfully completed two combat tours with the U.S. Army as a Civil Affairs Specialist. He started learning to shoot at the age of five. Liam has always loved firearms and shooting and was on an Air Rifle Team starting at the age of 12. He has received training in the civilian sector for firearms training from Carolina Tactical Group, Liam currently shoots in USPSA and trains with Trigger Control Training regularly. Other hobbies include hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, and participating in many other shooting sports. He is currently going to school full-time to become a Physician's Assistant.
Michelle Wallace - Inventory Control & Office Manager
Michelle was born and raised in Northern Utah and moved to Shelley Idaho over four years ago with her husband and four kids. She loves to paint, quilt, garden, and spend time with her family. Michelle has over 25 years of experience with Inventory, Production Control and Office Managing.
Rob Willsey - Civilian and Law Enforcement Instructor
Rob Willsey is a 31 year Law Enforcement Veteran with a Masters Certification. He has been a Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor for over 29 years. He is an Idaho POST Certified Firearms Instructor, Gun Site graduate, is NRA Certified in Law Enforcement Handgun, Tactical Shotgun, Tactical Rifle/Pistol, Patrol Rifle, and is a Precision Rifle Instructor. He is a former IFPD Sergeant, SWAT Team Member, Sniper Team, Lead Firearms Instructor and Armorer. In August of 2003 he left the IFPD to work for the Department of State’s Anti Terrorism Assistance Program serving in Colombia South America, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Rob completed his career at the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office as a Firearms Instructor and Back Country Mountain Rescue Deputy earning an EMT certification. He retired from the Sheriff’s Office in Dec 2015 where he still instructs firearms for the Sheriff’s Office, Idaho POST Academy, and Guns N Gear.
