Michael Loy - Director of Training

Michael Loy moved to Idaho Falls in 2016 to further the shooting sports in South Eastern Idaho. Before becoming the General Manager of Guns N Gear, he had more than a decade of experience as a full-time firearms instructor and director of training for Trigger Control based out of Coeur D’Alene. In addition to his professional experience, he brings a lifetime of shooting sports passion with him; he is a NRA life member, an Idaho Hunters Education Instructor and a personal protection training enthusiast. Mike has a passion for helping his community, growing the shooting sports, and sharing his knowledge with everyone he meets. You will find Mike working in our store most every day. Dillon Maughan - RSO & Firearms Specialist

Dillon J. Maughan grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho enjoying the beautiful outdoors and a strong second amendment environment. His training consists of both firearms and hand-to-hand through various groups such as Universal Security, Trigger Control, NRA, and others. He is also a certified armorer through Smith & Wesson. His formal work experience began in 2010 when he joined Tactical Security where he did patrol and event security. In 2014 he was recruited to Guns N Gear as a Range Safety Officer and has since added to the list Sales and Apprentice Instructor.

AJ Grytness - Firearm Safety Instructor

I’m 19 years old and I moved to Idaho Falls in December of 2016 from Coeur d’ Alene Idaho. I fell in love with shooting at the age of fifteen and have been obsessed ever since. I moved to Idaho falls to be a part of the team here at Guns N Gear and to further myself as an instructor. I am currently a nationally certified shotgun and home firearm safety instructor as well as a certified range safety officer. I have received countless hours of training in other disciplines such as low light and edged weapons and have graduated from some of the area’s finest academies. I have been certified as a Smith and Wesson armorer and have hundreds of hours as a line coach in rifle, pistol, and low light classes. In the near future I plan to attain credentials as a pistol and rifle instructor. I look forward to becoming more experienced and more knowledgeable in the industry that I love.

Jeff Layton - Firearms Instructor

Hi I am Jeff Layton. I am an apprentice instructor for Trigger Control Training. My love of firearms dates back to the day I got my first Red Ryder BB gun. I have worked on my skills ever since. I joined the Marine Corps in 1988 and was an infantry man. After I got out of the Corps, I joined the National Guard in 1993. In 1996 me and my partner won the state machine gun match and went on to represent Idaho at nationals in Little Rock Arkansas. The next year I competed in the state rifle match and once again went on to represent our great state. After that I went on to the army small arms instructor and range operations course where I learned to teach folks how to use the small arms we used in the service. Then I went to the army master marksman course where you learn to teach the other instructors and became the lead marksmanship instructor for my battery. After I retired in 2008 I still dabbled with shooting where I could but was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to train and teach again with Trigger Control.

Adam Cartney - Firearms Instructor

Adam was born in South Dakota and moved to Eastern Idaho after graduating high school. He has always had a passion for shooting, hunting and firearms his entire life. That passion brought him to Guns N Gear where he became an NRA certified RSO, BIT instructor and continues his education with Trigger Control’s Instructor Development.

Austin Frandsen - Range Safety Officer

I fell in love with shooting after my first trip to the range with my dad when I was 8 years old. Ever since that day I have been intrigued by the art of shooting. My dad is a nationally certified rifle and pistol instructor and has taught me much of what I know today. Additionally, I have received an abundance of knowledge from out senior instructor Michael Loy. After thousands of repetitions of dry practice and life fire drills I have achieved an exceptional level of proficiency on the rifle, pistol and shotgun platforms. I am a nationally certified range safety officer as well as a Smith & Wesson Armorer. In the future I am excited to receive my certifications to become a rifle, pistol and shotgun instructor. I am ecstatic to have been granted the opportunity to be a proud member of the Guns N Gear team!

Elden Arnell - Firearms Instructor

I was born and raised in Rigby Idaho. I was in Law Enforcement from 1975 to 1992. I started my carrier in firearms sales from then until present working for several different companies. I am a rifle and pistol expert, law enforcement sharpshooter, firearms instructor, police sniper, patron NRA member & NRA certified with rifle, pistol shotgun & home firearms safety. I am one of the founding members of the South-East Idaho practical shooters and have been active in IPSC, USPSA, ICORE, IDPA & many other shooting disciplines.

Jamie Wise - Firearms Instructor

Jamie is originally from Billings Montana and moved to Idaho where she raised her two boys. She is currently a real-estate investor, house flipper and has been a broker for over fifteen years. Jamie’s interest in being able to protect herself and conceal carry brought her to Guns N Gear where she has taken many classes along with Trigger Control Training Instructor Development. The more Jamie took the classes, the more she became addicted to the sport of shooting and firearms and the more she improved. Now she is completely comfortable and confident and wants to teach and pass on what she has learned.

Leonard Haag - Firearms Instructor

Melinda Haag - Apprentice Instructor

I was born and raised in Utah, and moved to Idaho when I was 20 years old. I have been married for 27 years, the mother of three boys who are all active military and I have one grandson. I enjoy being around my family, camping, skiing, quilting and various other hobbies. I started with Trigger Control in the Apprentice Instructor Development program in November 2016 and really enjoy it. I have learned many things being in the program.

Liam Kelly - Firearms Instructor

I have successfully done to two combat tours with the U.S. Army is a civil affairs specialist. I started learning to shoot at the age of five. I have always loved firearms and shooting. I was on an air rifle team starting at age 12;I have received training in the civilian sector for firearms training from Carolina tactical group, I am currently shooting in USPSA is one of my hobbies. Other hobbies include hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, and many other shooting sports. I am currently going to school full time to become a physician assistant.

Michelle Wallace - Inventory Control & Office Manager

Michelle was born and raised in Northern Utah but moved to Shelley Idaho over four years ago with her husband and four kids. She loves to paint, quilt, gardening and spending time with her family. Michelle has over 25 year experience with Inventory, Production Control and Office Managing.

Rob Willsey - Law Enforcement Instructor

Rob Willsey is a 31 year law Enforcement veteran with a Masters Certification he has been a Law Enforcement firearms instructor for over 29 years. He is an Idaho POST certified firearms instructor, Gun Site graduate, Certified NRA in Law Enforcement Handgun, Tactical Shotgun, Tactical Rifle/Pistol, Patrol Rifle and Precision Rifle instructor. He is a former IFPD Sergeant, SWAT team member, Sniper team, lead firearms instructor and Armorer. In August of 2003he left the IFPD to work for the Department of State’s Anti Terrorism Assistance Program serving in Colombia South America, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rob completed his career at the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office as a Firearms Instructor and Back Country Mountain Rescue Deputy earning an EMT certification. He retired from the Sheriff’s office in Dec 2015 where he still instructs firearms for the Sheriff’s office, Idaho POST academy and Guns N Gear.
