Sig Sauer Team Captain Max Michel, Jr. worked with SIG engineers in the development of the 1911 Max, a race-inspired pistol built to his unique specifications. Built by the Sig Sauer Custom Shop, the 1911 Max is a single-stack, 5” all-steel pistol with all the custom features that a world-class shooter requires.
A Nitron-finished stainless slide features forward cocking serrations, on top of a natural stainless frame with 26LPI checkering on the front strap. Max’s “MM” logo is custom engraved on the slide and machined into the Hogue® custom G-10 “Chainlink” grips, which offer a very aggressive, non-slip surface to the shooter.
Sig Sauer 1911 Max Specifications
Built to Michel’s specifications, the 1911 Max has a host of custom features, including SIG SAUER flat trigger, external extractor, a Dawson® Ice Magwell®, a Koenig® Speed Hammer® and EGW® sear and firing pin. Fiber optic front and adjustable rear sights also provide high-speed visibility.
Familiar handling, unfamiliar power, SIG SAUER has taken the proven features of the SIG516 and applied them into a potent AR-based rifle chambered in 7.62 NATO. In 2003, Springfield Armory introduced the subcompact version of the XD, which by necessity of the time retained the 10-round capacity, but in a much smaller frame intended for use as a backup or concealed-carry sidearm. In recent years, the SP-01 Shadow has taken the competition circuit by storm. In USPSA Production Division, CZ pistols are now used by twice as many top-level competitors than any other maker. Given that popularity, it was high time to up the ante.
Starting from scratch, CZUB engineers took the best features of the original Shadow and improved upon them. More than two years later, we’re seeing the fruits of their efforts. With a higher beavertail and undercut trigger guard, the shooter’s hand is able to be as close to the bore axis as possible. With a contoured slide, the majority of the reciprocating mass is also centered on the bore, equating to less muzzle flip. Increased weight at the dust cover/rail also helps keep the muzzle down.
The Shadow 2’s swappable mag release has an adjustable, extended button with three settings to allow shooters to set it in the spot most comfortable for them. Best of all, new trigger components give smooth DA and crisp, clean SA while drastically reducing trigger reset.
